Garment Care
Care Guide
EXA pieces are made to be lived in for a long time. Treated well, they only get better. A few guiding principles, then fabric-specific notes.
Wash Less
Most pieces only need airing between wears. Washing too often is the single fastest way to age fabric prematurely.
Cold Water
Cold cycles protect dyes, fibres, and shape. They are also gentler on the planet.
Air Dry
Tumble drying is the enemy of fit. Lay flat for knits, hang shirts in the shade, line dry everything else.
Store Well
Hang structured pieces on wide hangers. Fold knits. Keep everything out of direct sunlight and damp.
By fabric
Knitwear
Hand wash. Dry flat. Never hang.
Use cold water and a wool-safe detergent. Reshape while damp and lay flat on a clean towel out of direct sunlight. Hanging stretches the shoulders.
Shirts & Cotton
Machine wash cold. Steam, don’t iron.
Turn inside out, wash with similar colours on a gentle cycle, line dry in shade. A handheld steamer preserves the weave better than direct iron heat.
Denim
Wash rarely. Spot clean often.
Denim ages best when washed sparingly. When needed, turn inside out, wash cold on a delicate cycle, and air dry. Avoid the tumble dryer.
Wool & Outerwear
Dry clean only.
Brush after wear to lift dust and surface fibres. Store on a wide, shaped hanger. Have it professionally cleaned at the end of each season.
Leather
Wipe, condition, and store away from heat.
Wipe gently with a soft dry cloth after wear. Condition twice a year with a neutral leather cream. Stuff with tissue and store in a breathable bag.
Repairs
Small issues — a loose button, a dropped stitch — are part of ownership, not failure. We are happy to recommend trusted repair partners. For warranty queries, contact hello@exa.com.
End of Life
When a piece has reached the end of its life with you, please pass it on. Resell, donate, or recycle textiles through your local stream. The kindest thing for a garment is a long life in many hands.
